What Is This About? Well, I'll Tell You.
I've been closely following this story since I saw the video (which went viral almost immediately) on June 30, 2013. I myself exploded online with a stream of profanity that still didn't even begin to convey the outrage against what I'd just seen.
This is about Leon Rosby, who was arrested videotaping police activity near his home in Hawthorne, California. He was there recording these activities because there have been numerous complaints against those very officers in the past regarding abuse of power and excessive force.
As you can see in the following videos, Leon Rosby was not the only one recording the police that day. So why not arrest everyone with a camera phone? Maybe he happened to be standing a little closer than everyone else. So what? It didn't look like he was interfering to me.
Or maybe... he was one of those in the community who had a pending complaint against some of the officers in that Department. That much is fact.
This is about Max, Leon's two-year-old family pet that he raised from a 6-week-old puppy, brutally shot to death in front of him when he tried to come to the aid of his owner.
Max, who was protective, uncertain, possibly trying to understand the meaning of why everyone was yelling at him, at his owner, at each other. Max, who being in the middle of all this sees a hand suddenly come toward his face.
Dogs view that as a threat, and if Jeffrey Salmon, the officer who ultimately shot Max knew anything about dogs at all (he claims to be a dog owner himself) he would have at least known that. Max, who despite being confused, taunted and threatened, never once went into a full attack mode. Never once bit... anyone.
Since that day, worldwide public outrage (and some death threats) in the form of emails, letters, and phone calls prompted the Department to pull those officers off the street. As far as I know they're still pulled from duty.
I also know that so much of this outrage has now been focused into efforts geared toward holding such officers accountable for their actions, because it is a well-known fact that this police brutality against our family pets isn't just a problem in Hawthorne, California.
It's a nationwide epidemic, this violence by law enforcement against family members - that's right, I said family members - has gone on unchecked far too long.
Case after heartbreaking case all over the U.S. of a police officer pulling out a gun and killing the dog on the street... after throwing him down a stairwell.... while on a catchpole and only trying to get away... while sitting in her own open garage.... while still in his yard.... inside the home... while still in their crates.
This list is endless. This has to stop. This has to stop.
This is about Leon and Max. Putting a stop to it begins with supporting Leon and Max.

Firm believer in Eye For An Eye

This happened in Indiana last weekend. A rural neighborhood where they sometimes let their dogs run loose. Although I'm against the practice, that is not this issue in this story.
This issue is unprovoked animal cruelty. I'm guessing that if they look a little further, they'd probably find domestic abuse there too. The attack was against the girlfriend's dog. What's the fastest way to get back at someone during an argument? Hurt something they love. It happens all the time. The monster takes out his frustration on his wife, his girlfriend, his partner... pretty soon that's not enough so they move on to the kids. Or if there are no kids, the dog or cat, or any other family pet.
That should be a total DEALBREAKER to victims of abuse. Don't feel sorry for him, don't give him a second chance, third chance, fourth or fifth chance. They'll never stop. "Once you raise a finger to anyone or any creature, you are out of here for good." That should be the stance victims take. If I was in her shoes, they'd probably have to stop me from going after that guy with his own axe. It's never been a secret I have zero tolerance for anybody that messes with kids or pets - in so many families, they're one in the same.
In case you're wondering, the injuries shown in the photo were sustained during the scuffle when the suspect was resisting arrest.

Blog makeover
I'm revamping my blog, after deciding that's its been ignored long enough. The templates and design will probably go through several changes before I settle on a look I really like.
Facebook is one thing... easy to post news articles, petitions, chip-ins for rescues and whatnot. But I don't feel I have the space and the immediacy runs too fast to go into any detail about anything other than the most urgent info.
This blog used to be about poetry, and if you scroll down far enough its there. It's all still there - and probably always will be. Who knows? I may get Poetri or Beau Sia inspired again and spew the written word all over the place, lol.
This also has the feel of some time warped forward from some horror genre novelist... at least it does for me, dear reader. Speaking of which - I. Can't. Wait. For the new season of the Walking Dead. Who's with me on this? Begins next month. Just in time for Halloween, don't cha just love it?
As for the near future of this blog, A focus on animal welfare. Photography - probably pics of dogs I've groomed, my own dogs, and random interesting photos of the area. That and opinion. Unfiltered, blunt, uncensored opinion on things I'm passionate about. It's my blog, I can rant if I want to.
I'm due for a vacation. It's five days away, and then I get two weeks to myself. Then start at the new location. The same one I wanted since before I even started at the company.
Funny thing about that transfer. It took me getting robbed at gunpoint while waiting for my bus for them to take me seriously. Even so, transfers don't happen overnight, so I've taken steps. I can now literally kick the shit out of anybody else who tries to take my shit - and leave a lasting impression.
A new meaning to the name "Baileykix" wouldn't you agree?

Save Heidi Home
Save Heidi Home This paranoia has gotten completely out of hand. Read Heidi's story and sign the petition to help save her from being killed. Her "crime"? Jumping up in excitement when a man approached and bent down to pet her. The top of her head accidentally made contact with his nose, causing an injury. The authorities are now making this out to be an attack, treating the incident as a dog bite. How ridiculous is this? It needs to stop.

Lennox's Last Day.
Depending on how the hearing with the Northern Ireland dog warden, this could mean one of two things. Either Lennox's last day away from his family, or his last day on earth. So many are praying for this sweet boy's release.
The campaign has been going on for the past few years now, and is a classic example of how wrong Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) is. Lennox was forcibly taken from his home when such laws were enacted. He had done nothing to provoke this. There were no signs of aggression, there had been no bite incidents, there was nothing to warrant being ripped from the only people he's ever known, and placed in solitary confinement in a cold kennel for months (now years.)
It was determined through the way he looks, nothing other than the shape of his head, and the length of his body, as taken with a tape measure.
If Lennox were human, this would be against the law - considered racial profiling.
Now as a last ditch effort to ensure the right people hear our concerns for Lennox and to let common sense win out over irrational outcomes, many of us are posting his story anywhere we can.

Remembering Chico
This beloved family pet was killed in Northeast Philadelphia back in October of 2010. The outcry was so great at the time there were even public donations to the reward fund set up to catch whoever did this. Since then, there have been no further developments... Somebody out there knows something.
